As I've reported before, I've seen similar results, but I don't use X. "periodical bad latency" happens all the time while measurements example run. It was with 2.4.18 + rtlinux 3.1(Modified), same as Andrew is using.
It happens on PentiumIII-S 1266MHz + i815 chipset SBC (NI 8176 PXI controller). But on the same machine, 2.4.4 + rtlinux 3.1 (Official config) doesn't show this behavior. My other PICMG SBC (PIII 1000MHz + i815) behaves same as above on this matter. Just FYI. For now, I'm going to use 2.4.4 kernel + rtliux3.1.
