Hello,
Does rtnet support any 802.11 wireless cards? I would like to use it to provide QoS for multimedia streams (VoIP, video streaming and video surveillance) on ad-hoc networks. Does anybody knows if this is possible to achieve with rtnet?
RTnet does not yet come with any WLAN driver. We are already thinking about such an extension, but we are lacking the man-power. Except for the wireless configuration extension, the driver layer is identical to wired Ethernet. So, if YOU are interested...
What can you expect from RTnet over 802.11? Well, of course not the same QoS like standard Ethernet provides due to the high level of media disturbances. I'm not an expert on the low level data flow on 802.11 which AFAIK is not directly influenceable (hence it is likely undeterministic), but RTnet may improve the reliability on higher protocol levels by coordinating the transmission times. Note: you will then need a master station. I'm not sure if this differs much from a normal access point. But I think it is worth investigating it!
