The rtnet ralink driver works only for the rt2500 pci chipset, which
supports 802.11b/g. The driver has been ported from rt2x00-2.0.0-b3 (see
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/rt2400/). 
The current non real time rt2x00 drivers also support the newer rt2561
chipset. As far as i know the rt2561 uses extra firmware, so there could
be some major differences.

There has been some basic testing of the rtnet ralink driver. The
implemented features (look at the README) work fine. An experimental
use of the rtnet tdma over wlan was also possible.
The madwifi driver makes use of a binary HAL. So it is hard to say, if
its possible to perform real time requirements with it.
