I think what you have in mind for RTnet is a bit too early. Typical
applications I know of are smaller, a few 10 node or even less. That
doesn't mean larger setups are infeasible, it's rather that current,
fairly specialised scenarios do not need this size. Users also prefer to
gain experiences on smaller, e.g. laboratory, setups first before taking
the next step.

Moreover, those RTnet users I know privately are fairly shy.
Unfortunately, they do not announce their application here, nor do they
always tell me how large their networks are. RTnet is facing the
well-known chicken-egg problem: "Who's using it?" "I'm not allowed to
tell you." "Then why should we use it?"
