Hi I solved the unexpected behaviour as follows:
All of the eth devices was configured to use dhcp under the normal FC5 network settings (Start menu->Administration->Networks). I then forced static IP addresses in my script using "ifconfig". When I changed the FC5 network settings so that each of the eth devices are assigned the same addresses that I use in the script, everything works fine. It seems that the driver uses the static IP address as commanded by the script, and then somehow revert back to the DHCP setting after 73 seconds (it takes on the last IP address assigned to it by DHCP for that second I mentioned in the original email), probably realizes that there is no DHCP server, and then goes down. I am not sure if this is a bug, or just me mis-using ifconfig? Anyway, it seems to be working now.
