Lab setups went up to 8 node, including 1 master and 1 backup master
here. Offset was 100 us, cycle time 2 ms.

That sounds perfectly feasible. Of course the overall feasibility also
depends on the system load with other RT jobs beyond RTnet communication
and their requirements.
