I think I was unclear in my last message. I cannot bring up the
rteth5 and rteth6 interfaces:

OK, got it, finally.

./rtifconfig rteth5 up 192.168.5.100 netmask 255.255.255.0
ioctl: Cannot allocate memory

and dmesg shows:

[148286.298130] e1000: rteth5: e1000_setup_rx_resources: Unable to
allocate memory for the receive descriptor ring
[148286.298235] e1000: rteth5: e1000_setup_all_rx_resources:
Allocation for Rx Queue 0 failed

That's weird, the error seems to be triggered by plain vmalloc calls: http://www.rts.uni-hannover.de/rtnet/lxr/source/drivers/e1000/e1000_main.c#1522

Could you instrument that line (printk) and check what size is provided (and how often it is called)?

Thanks,
Jan
