A heterogeneous network is feasible with RTnet - if it makes sense is a totally different question. RTnet is used for such networks since ages, but usually against nodes that are supposed to behave deterministically on the net. I would not expect this from an ordinary Windows host, whatever protocol you run over the wire. So, before going into solving technical issues, it might be worth rethinking the overall setup.
