NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Borland Software (BORL) Wednesday reported fourth-quarter loss of $9.6 million, or 13 cents a share, down from a year-ago profit of $8 million, or 10 cents a share. Revenue fell in the latest three months to $71 million from $82.5 million in the same period a year earlier. On a non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) basis, the company lost $4.2 million, 5 cents a share, in the quarter. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call was for a profit of a penny a share in the December period on sales of $69.1 million. Looking ahead, the company sees revenue of $65 million to $67 million in the March quarter.
