Latest trunk of rubygems is compatible with latest trunk of ruby. Prior versions of RubyGems are not compatible with 1.9, as stated by Eric Hodel in his blog: http://blog.segment7.net/articles/2007/09/20/rubygems-tests-pass-on-1-9 (Or maybe I interpreted that from the post). All the functionality you had with previous stable 0.9.4 is present in latest beta.
