It's the word "credible" in your comment that's the problem, I suspect. :-) They probably get hundreds of thousands of "spam" reports a day, and I'm sure they don't have the staff to look at them all.
What we as users can do -- and I generally do -- is use that "report this message" feature rigorously to report spam messages. Because although they can't possibly have the human staff to look at things, if they get a sufficient volume of reports on a given message, who knows, perhaps an automated system might kick in (or at least put it in front of a human). Someone once told me that Google completely ignores those. If so, well, it's an exercise in futile optimism... :-) -- T.J.
