.NET has a platform bias. The other development environments mentioned run on a variety of platforms, while running .NET on non-MS platforms is not especially well supported (forgive me if I'm out of date here). My bias is towards software that I can run without caring what the operating system is. Hence, for example, a preference for Firefox, Thunderbird, Vim (how does anyone live without it?), javascript etc. I still don't like Java much, though.
