I have a hidden DIV floating (z-index: 100) above my page where I display my slide-sorter image picking interface. I show this DIV with Element.show(), and populate its contents with Ajax.Updater. Everything shows up and looks fine in Safari, but Firefox 1.5.09/Mac shows the scrollbars from a div (overflow: auto) on the page below cutting right through the content of the floated DIV.
I've tried manually setting the z-index on the scrolling div to 1, but that had no effect. I hacked around the problem by using Element.hide() to remove the offending element from view while the hidden layer is showing. But I would really like to understand what's happening here so I can avoid it from the start rather than just treating the symptom. Has anyone seen this before, or do you have any guesses?
