Hi, There's nothing in Prototype AFAIK, you'd need to fall back on the raw DOM...
According to Danny Goodman's trusty but slightly ageing 'Dynamic HTML' book: "To position the insertion pointer in specific location inside a textarea element in IE, see the TextRange object" Both <input type='text'> and <textarea> support a createTextRange() method. Goodman marks it as unsupported in Netscape, but a quick google suggests that Firefox supports the TextRange object too these days. Might be what you're looking for?
