I think that is a "problem" (not a real problem) of your web server. Try this: create a file xml3.php that contains only this:
<? echo "YOUR XML STRUCTURE OR THE XML.XML FILE"; ?> It works ? If yes: ok, your web server does not understand xml file (mime type); if no: ok, I have made a wrong answer.
