Yeah,

Lots of people may need this functionality, so I'm glad you sent it to
us here. But not everyone needs this, which is why I'm against the
idea of it being added to Prototype as a whole. Prototype needs to
stay implementation agnostic and I'm wary of global changes being
added for special cases like ASP.NET.

I say, continue modifying your code for your use. Good luck!
