I did try Firebug Lite, and it got me the line number, which led to  
the solution.

I had never tried that before, and I found it useful in that it led  
me to the right spot to stare at, but difficult in that I had been  
well spoiled by the real Firebug, with its elaborate and clear  
messages and links to the actual problem code, etc.
