My main OS is Mac OS X. Actually, getting the MySQL gem to install on Mac OS X was no mean fit given the 32/64 bit issues with the version of Ruby that ships with OS X. But I did get that working the other day.
I'm comfortable compiling stuff on OS X. This exercise was to set up my Windows XP VM - to be honest, I can't even remember why I was even bothering to try to install the mysql gem on my Windows VM. I'm not going to bother moving forward on it unless I need it. Thanks for the help though.
