I am using rvm and according to the printout for rvm list I was sure I 
don't have 1.8:

rvm rubies

   ruby-1.9.3-p125 [ i686 ]
=* ruby-1.9.3-p194 [ i686 ]

# => - current
# =* - current && default
#  * - default
