you need to do that in javascript, I don't think any part of Rails does that for you.
check out http://www.sanwebe.com/2013/05/select-box-change-dependent-options-dynamically for a good explanation there may be a rails gem or plugin that can help you, but I do not know of what specifically for that purpose.
