Just so you're aware, to the best of my knowledge, Rails 2.2.2 is engineered around the Ruby 1.8 series. Ruby 1.9 has renamed and/or removed some of its standard libraries, and that's why it's breaking. I personally ran into the same issue, and for my own development, rolled back to 1.8, just until Rails 2.3 is finalized and officially released.
See http://pragdave.blogs.pragprog.com/pragdave/2008/04/ruby-19-standar.html for some of changes to Ruby 1.9's standard libraries.
