That's the funny part. The logs only reveal what's in the aforementioned Gist 
(https://gist.github.com/741144). I was expecting a lot more output – but there 
seems to be no mention of the underlying error as far as I can see.

Please note that other multipart requests work just fine. This particular one 
fails every time. I'm also down to a bare controller doing nothing at all other 
than rendering a string.
