If this is your first app I would suggest initially not using ajax until you have got the rest of it working. Where you might want to use ajax just update the whole page. However, if you really want to jump in at the deep end, do you understand the basics of Ajax? If not I suggest finding some tutorials and working through them, then work out how to apply it to your particular problem.
