Sure did:

class User < ActiveRecord::Base

  has_many   :user_mailboxes
  belongs_to :other_user, :class_name => "UserMailbox"
end


class UserMailbox < ActiveRecord::Base

  belongs_to :user
  belongs_to :other_user, :class_name => "User"
end
