Are you trying to use the most recent version? Or are you using an older version.
Looking at the git history of rails in github (https://github.com/ rails/rails/tree/v2.0.2) It looks like 2.02 came out after Dec 16 2007. Looking at the history of paperclip on github v 2.0 was tagged on March 18 2008. I would start with v2.0 and see if it works and then work up the minor branch until it breaks.
