I like paperclip. I upgraded from acts_as_attachment. What I did was upload a file so I could see what it would do, then looked at the file structure and the database structure for both acts_as_attachment and paperclip. I was able to write a fairly simple rake task to convert the old uploads so that paperclip would find them.
