I don't think the error is because of your OS. I've also had this error too on my 32bit windows.
One possible reason is that your GEF is not the good one for your eclipse (which is my case). I suggest you to install the plugin directly from the update site which will solve the dependancie by itself. There is no problem with the update site in my eclipse. A second solution is to install Eclipse Modeling which contains GEF natually.
