What if I only have a couple hundred rules that each examine 100-200 codes
each, and I also have a server with 256 GB of RAM? Is Drools a suitable
solution for me?

Your approach overall may also be a mistake. I've built DROOLS systems looking
at things like codes for thousands of entries. If you have a problem with
thousands of rules that examine codes your JVM will run out of memory.
