To answer your first question you can check the state of a workitem in its
onExit action by:
import org.jbpm.workflow.instance.node.WorkItemNodeInstance
import org.drools.runtime.process.WorkItem
WorkItem workItem =
((WorkItemNodeInstance)kcontext.getNodeInstance()).getWorkItem();
System.out.println("State of the workitem " + workItem.getName() + " on exit
is " + workItem.getState());
