They might or might not want to use rumprun.  In any case, the procedure 
for that hasn't yet been documented either, nor is it there a clear 
understanding how to compile netperf in the way that rumprun requires. 
And who knows what signals may lurk there ...

I think if someone wants to run netperf (or ttcp or whatever) tomorrow 
instead of next month, doing it your way is the current best hope.

No sweat.  In open source everything takes exactly until the person 
doing it has time ;)

Though, if at all relevant to your thesis, you could consider flipping 
the whole thing to your advantage: include the document as an appendix 
for the purpose of making that part of your experimentation repeatable.
