Good idea.

We should try to clean up the diffs a bit more and perhaps add a toggle 
to the upstream Makefiles.  That way we wouldn't have a problem of a 
patch not applying against an arbitrary future revision; I think last 
time when I bumped the timestamp I had to merge the changes manually.
