RIght, but hopefully it could be a fast metadata-only pass, or the
metadata could be distributed, or somesuch. Half baked idea, maybe not
a good one!

and just ignore failures?
It is not possible to run resolve while ignoring failures and still get
the correct answers, unfortunately. I did this once and Patrick gave me
a scolding.
