what does urxvt -version say?
in general, for pixmap backgrounds, you need to link against libafterimage.

and unless you really have a directory called '$HOME' where you start
urxvt, this will likely not find the file, you need to specify the correct
path to the file (or use some preprocessor to expand $HOME).
