Most tiling window managers (for some reason) are of abysmal quality. This
is most likely an implementation issue with your tiling window manager
which disrespects the size hints. When the borders change depending on the
actual size, and when they go away when they have the right size, then this
is a good hint that that is the case indeed.
If it is the case, then, while your wm has all the right of the world to
do this, this can and does result in these issues. Best report this to the
author of your wm and ask him/her to properly implementing window hints.
And while you are at it, please use a better e-mail program, or configure
your e-mail program to respect basic netiquette rules and do not put very
long paragraphs into single lines. This makes it very hard for people to
read your e-mails, and consequently, they might not be thrilled to reply
to them.
