It's not a helpful feature for me - I never ever need it, and it
frequently gets in the way by inserting funny characters when I don't
want it to.

OK thanks for the info.  Actually I don't think I need C-S-<x> passed
through to emacs - maybe to another app although I can't remember
which one off-hand.  I'll try to keep an eye out for the next time it
causes a problem so that I can describe the issue more fully.
