The default awesome setup (in recent releases) doesn't ignore them either, though I forced both. Since I only use tiled setups or fullscreen, I _really_ want the terminal to cover the whole manageable area. No terminal (or other application I'm aware of) was ever injured by doing this, except maybe urxvt ;). In a perfect world, I would love that the extra space would be used to display part of the scrollback in the upper corner (instead of being wasted). When using big fonts (like I do), there's a lot of wasted screen real-estate if the screen height is not a perfect multiple of font height. Right now, I could display >50% of an extra line. But anyway, I understand this is a stretch. I believe many people do this (the page I linked wasn't done by me) so I was just trying to save me the need for a rebuild.
