(However,) I have the impression OP would like to resemble the fade
effect on an (old) CRT where the cursor "faded" due to phosphor (or
whatever chemical) afterglow on the screen (you know, that thing
that's glowing because it gets hit by electrons.. :)

I'm not going to say anything else about this, despite that this
behavior most probably was not intended.
