Neither - rxvt-unicode is a vt100 emulator, it doesn't try to emulate
xterm.

As for custom additions, rxvt-unicode is quite programmable via Perl (and
less so via C++ :).

As for additions to the core, they need to have some demonstrated
usefulness (which frankly most xterm hacks don't have). The barrier for
Perl extensions is much lower than for C++, as they don't increase bloat
for everybody.
