Then I frankly don't know - it does work with a default-configured urxvt out
of the box, so it must be something either in your configuration or your
set-up.
The cutchars resource must be in the locale encoding of the terminal, and
as for terminal input, when the terminal displays the character, then it
could properly decode it.
