Could you elaborate what you mean with "system language setting to a utf-8
font"? fonts are not utf-8, languages are not utf-8, and languages are not
fonts either.
Secondly, could you provide a backtrace of such a frozen urxvt instance? ("gdb
/path/to/urxvt <pid-of-urxvt>" followed by the "bt" command).
