Hi, when I am using any IM (input method), urxvt startup times will noticeable increase. A sole "time urxvt -e false" will go from 100ms up to 350ms, which is a noticable lag. urxvtc starts almost instantly without IM but takes about the same time with an IM enabled. (time: 16ms to 300ms, which is supernoticeable) When there's a little load in the background this can drag on even longer.
xterm takes constanly about 130ms, with or without an IM. It's all the same if it's either scim, fcitx, ibus or uim. IIRC that was why I initially switched from scim, but sadly I don't remember if it got better or if so, what I did do to have this problem again. But I am pretty sure it was better. For all IM I am using in the environment: XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx" XIM=fcitx XIM_PROGRAM=fcitx GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx and in .Xresources: URxvt*inputMethod: fcitx (with the respective programs of course) I am using the latest and greatest rxvt-unicode from CVS.
