I've noticed that when I try to select text in w3m, clicking and
dragging causes scrolling behavior rather than selection. I don't
remember this being the case before, I think something changed
recently. Does anyone know what changed, was it w3m? I would like to
permanently disable mouse reporting in Urxvt, but I can't figure out
how to do it. There seems to be no ./configure option or X resource to
disable this behavior.

Strangely it seems that mouse reporting only happens when TERM=xterm
or TERM=rxvt-unicode, but not with my custom terminfo
TERM=my-rxvt-unicode (which I created as a workaround to disable
blinking when Marc changed the meaning of the cursorBlink resource).
It is particularly annoying with w3m because nothing on the display
changes until I release the mouse button - so until the button is
released, I'm confused as to why no selection is happening. Any
thoughts?

Ideally I could activate mouse reporting with "shift", rather than
disabling it with "shift", because I want to use it rarely if ever and
I'd prefer to keep a consistent interface across applications. I.e.
I'm not wanting to either press "shift" every time I click, or to
remember and think about which terminal applications interpret mouse
events. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Frederick
