 2.6.3 is the version that is the actual version on our ftp-sites in
woody - and so should be the only version you should try to verify this.

 I was just guessing.  It could be that the problem lies completely
somewhere else, but I think that I saw the nameserver IP in the strace
when I first was looking at it.

 I meant what I wrote - but I tried that yet, it doesn't matter if the
FQDN is in /proc/sys/kernel/hostname or if it's split up between
hostname and domainname.

 The file you meant is called /etc/hostname on a debian-machine, btw.

 So, I'm not that sure anymore that the delay has to do with a
ns-connection or with something else... I'm not that familar with strace
to be of any help here.  If you need a complete strace I would mail it,
just tell me how I can help to resolve this.
