Indeed.  There was an off-by-one in the NCL which i think can only
be seen by moving backwards before due to the way we handled the
"top insertion point" (i.e., in the rightmost column you expect
the cursor after the last character that has been written).
That is interesting, since i never ever came across this in ...
almost three years, error seems to have been introduced in
[d33bd89] (tty.c, NCL: reduce realloc counts, 2013-08-23).  Oh
well, just this Monday i've found a bug from October 2012, pffffh!
First nightmares... become swept out, finally.

But the good news is that the new MLE doesn't have this problem.
