Hello list, and, hey, the development of the «long-tailed tit» v14.9.0 has finally come to an end! All that is missing from the code side is reinstantiation of IMAP code, let's see how hard that is.
Dependent on how you count (problem: back then i overwrote the git(1) AuthorDate when amending commits, today i use that as the original and actualize only CommitDate, also not right, true, but there is no BirthDate) it has taken in between 22.5 and 23.5 months until we have reached this state! As usual, there is still no time to sit back, let it rest and perform proper reviews, no, it has been progress and adjustments until yesterday. I really hope we get over this with v15. Ja, i am sorry that the three features i was about to go for have not made it, and some other things i have stated will not be in v14.9.0 either, but i think the improvements of the entire core machinery lead into the right direction, upon which later development can build. The new hooks, again made more functional and now hopefully sufficiently covered by tests, allow flexible header and attachment creation, inspection and modification, and i hope the reliability of scripting S-nail (S-mailx) is proper via the new variables $? (return status), $! / $^ERR / $^ERRNAME / $^ERRDOC (error status). Set *errexit*, gain "set -e". Use `ignerr' command or `-' command escape prefix to survive nonetheless. Careful with $POSIXLY_CORRECT / *posix*, though. We are far from being a flexible thing, but things definetely, though slowly, start to rock! So my plan is to reintegrate IMAP, after which there will be a release-candidate, hopefully no later but by the end of next week. Then only scan-build, Coverity.com, etc. to improve code quality. As necessary. (The new make.rc options OPT_ASAN_ADDRESS was just fine last time i tried, it found things valgrind(1) never reported. OPT_ASAN_MEMORY was faulty whenever i tried. My own memory canaries have not triggered for a long, long time, and meaning it.) Then HTML conversion of the manual, at least three days, given how broken the output of grohtml was the last time i tried. Mailman setup to move the mailing list to sdaoden.eu. Release the «long-tailed tit», and i hope you will find it usable and possibly even a good thing to have.
