Unfortunately not.
I will change it and add an optional fourth argument, and if any
of the arguments is .. say, hyphen-minus -, then no such thing is
written.  Does this sound sound?
(I'd only wish we would already support the format=flowed (RFC
3676) of doing things, but that needs (for me) v15.)
