I recently bought a small Bernzomatic butane powered torch for use in
soldering model sized pieces of brass. The package indicted that the torch
would be useful in soldering copper pipes but I am lucky to get it to melt
solder. When I failed to solder the brass together with the torch I
switched back to my 40 watt Weller iron and had better luck.

Is butane a low-energy source? I expected the torch with point heat would
make the construction of brass items a lot faster than the iron. I have
seen a video of some of the pros at PBL using a small torch with great
success.

Shall I continue to struggle trying to learn to use the torch or do I need a
different type fuel?

Thanks,

Art A
