These cars were used the last years of ice reefers when the large national or regional ice distributors quit supplying the railroads with ice. I've got a shot of one I took in Wausau, WI in the late 60's or so. The Milwaukee had quite a few of them throughout the system. some wood, some steel. I'm certain other railroads did as well. Incidently, this car also recently became available in HO. (Copycats!) Anyway, there aren't many blue reefers around.
