See Embedded (1) Do you actually have a layout, or do you just model in S scale? Under construction. The 2 backstage yards are build and about 30 feet of visible single mainline is laid (handlaid code 83 with individual tie plates at every ties). (2) If you do run your scale models on a layout, [yours or anybody's] are they exactly prototypically made to scale with all the detail, including underbodies? Not at this point. About 1/4 of my roster is painted/lettered and detailed. In addition, since I decided to back date my modeling to 1939, I'll have to re-paint about half of what I have made so far. (about a dozen cars). However, all cars are scale and fit my previous time frame of 1954 and some have P64 wheels on. (3) Do you attempt to run scale models as true to scale as best you can? Yes (4) Are there models on your layout that are true to scale, but not finished. Like the underbodies are not completely finished, and so on? I'll have 2 "categories" of cars. Foreground models which will be detailed almost as contest models and "figurants" which would use a Ed's 3' rule, well 2' feet rule. I expect my foreground category to overgrowth the other as time goes. That is my approach to be able to run trains NOW and not in 20 years... (5) Do you have any un-scale models running on your layout? Nop (6) Are you serious when you say that a SHS or AM model is off from the prototype 1/10 of a foot, or that the slope is off a fraction, or that the markings are wrong, or it has the wrong headlights for the model SHS-AM and others are re-creating? Yes for my foreground models. The others, the most obvious only like no shorties or the wrong roof. With one exception, the upcoming SHS 2-8-0. Since I consider all the locomotives and cabooses foreground models, I'll make a new CN class to accommodate the 2 engines on my roster, of course after applying the CN characteristics on it. (7) Are you having fun?
