Hi Tom,
To break down the topics...

Yes it does, we operate our models, 42" just is physically too low to
be walking along with the train as it progresses through the layout.
50" is pretty comfortable. If the need arises for a builder to operate
between S-mod and Free-mo then another set of legs may be in order.

Still being investigated. PowerPole connectors are really genderless
and align themselves 100% into a reversible module and simplifying
wiring. This is not an insurmountable obstacle for those that need
cross compatibility, just make an adapter dongle and away you go.
However, I must say the Jones stye have proved their usefulness since
1995 and it's hard to justify ditching them just because something new
came along. This is a TBD.

Free-mo will pretty much be able to join into the S-mod layout but not
the other way around do to the expanded requirements of a module.

Mostly philosophy...and mostly in the direction of being
prototypical/scale. So in essence Free-mo is stricter then S-mod.
